Young Carers Creative Project

Urban heard has teamed up with Spurgeons children's charity to offer a 11 week programme for young people in Birmingham who are young carers who have some experience with drugs or alcohol -wether it be a personal experience or part of their caring role.

We have already delivered two fantastic cohorts of young people who have learnt the following:

  • About addiction

  • Dangers of drugs, alcohol and New Psychoactive Substances

  • First Aid -particularly dealing with issues associated with overdose and drug related issues

  • Healthy relationships and exploitation

  • Healthy eating

  • Mindfulness

Its not all work and no play as each session we share food and have an activity. There is also an away day where the young people decide on the activity they want to do.

The sessions end with a showcase event which the young people decide on what they want to show. Graffiti has been the theme of both previous sessions with all the young people having a whole session on creating art to be shown.

All participants are working towards an ASDAN accreditation and receive a goodie bag once they complete the course.
